The Western Forest Genetics Association comprises professionals, researchers, and students involved in forest genetics issues in the western US and Canada. It was founded in 1955 and currently holds biennial meetings that are rotated throughout the region, often held jointly with other organizations.
The Southern Forest Tree Improvement Committee is the de facto professional organization of tree improvement specialists throughout the southeastern United States. SFTIC has organized and directed tree improvement efforts and has sponsored many studies including the first quantification of geographic variation in the southern pines. The Southern Forest Tree Improvement Conference organized by SFTIC has met biennially for 70 years to exchange information and to discuss future needs.
The Northern Forest Genetics Association (NFGA) is a volunteer group whose aim is to improve coordination of forest genetics and tree improvement work across the northeastern United States and Canada across all landholder types, including federal, state, university, and forest industries.
